Hey, writer. Let’s get started.
There’s a toxic energy that we bond over in the writing community:
The struggle to come up with the perfect idea.
The slow sludge of words on a day full of blocks.
The defeat of reading through a haphazard first draft.
The emotional toll of darling-killing.
It’s true. Writing is REALLY HARD. But we spend so much time worrying about all that mess that we forget to enjoy our process.
Here’s the thing: people are programmed to notice the bad stuff and wallow in it. It makes putting words on the page more difficult than it needs to be, and all that negativity sucks up the mental space that we should be saving for the GOOD that comes with creating.
The upside? You can break the cycle.
You can choose to return to a time when writing was fun.
Messy isn’t a bad word.
Together, we can make
space for the joy of creating.
My name is Alyson
. . . and I’m here to help you change your perspective on the writing process.
Prior to becoming a book coach and editor, I worked in public education. And I loved it. Wait—that needs to be bolder. I LOVED it. But life lifes. In my case, my motherhood journey grabbed my hand, led me to a cute carnival ride that turned out to be the spinning teacups (you know, the one where you can’t tell which way is left or right or if you’re enjoying it or wanting to jump head-first out of the cup or . . .you get the point), and demanded more flexibility from me; so I chose to pivot and explore a secret job crush that I’d been harboring for years.
I became a book coach.
Now, I work with adults, reminding them that they aren’t too old for creative wordplay and to grant themselves the space to get messy and write.
Imagine an English classroom with all the support, encouragement, and space to try out wild ideas without the threat of a bad grade, the giggle from a mean girl who just doesn’t get it, or the risk of feeling dumb for misunderstanding the assignment. Now, imagine that same energizing experience except you’re in your comfiest chair and your teacher-mentor is conferencing with you about a project you’ve been wanting to tell someone about for months or *gasp* years.
My degrees in psychology + designing writing curriculum and instruction uniquely equip me for the world of book coaching. Together, we can dismantle the blocks that hold you back from drafting your best work while developing a plan to build your mess-tolerant creative muscles from the ground up.
